HSE Reports on Work-related ill Health for Education

Education is the fifth highest industry for work-related ill health, higher than Construction.

129,000 workers suffering from work-related ill health, 52% of these due to stress, depression or anxiety, 24% of these due to Musculoskeletal disorders and 24% other.

When looking closer at stress, depression or anxiety this equates to around 1.9% of workers in the sector, this is statistically significantly higher than that for workers across all industries which sits at 1.4%.

The largest psychosocial risk factor to education workers by far is Difficult customers at 74%

Whereas work-related injuries in the education sector is 1.5% of workers, statistically significantly lower than that across all industries 1.7%

The largest physical risk factor to education workers by far is lifting / moving at 66%
