Fake Microsoft Teams updates lead to infected systems

Hackers are using malicious ads for Microsoft Teams updates to infect systems. The infected system are then used to infect the rest of the network and ransom your data.

The attacks target organizations in various industries, but recent ones focused on the education sector, which depends on videoconferencing solutions due to Covid-19 restrictions.

It is important to remind users not to follow links from random ad’s and unknown sources as this can lead to infected systems.

To check Team’s is up to date: –

  • click on the circle in the top right corner of the app (this will have their initials or their chosen picture)
  • three quarters of the way down the menu is ‘Check for updates’ click on this and the app will check for updates in the background.
